Export Paige documents to a synced OneDrive folder
The no-license path: run an SFTP server on a PC that syncs OneDrive, point Paige at a folder inside OneDrive, and every finished document uploads itself — PDFs plus Paige's data files, nothing to build.
Before you begin
- A Windows PC or VM that stays on and signed in, with the OneDrive app signed in to the Microsoft 365 work account
- The ability to install an SFTP server on that PC and open port 22 to it from the internet
- A Paige scan job with document types set up
At the end of this guide, every document Paige finishes appears in a OneDrive folder as a searchable PDF, minutes after export, with no Power Automate license and nothing to build — because the OneDrive folder is on a PC and Paige writes into it.
How it works
The OneDrive app keeps a folder on the PC (
OneDrive - <your organization>) in sync with the cloud. An SFTP server on that PC exposes a subfolder of it as Paige's export folder.
Paige exports finished documents there. OneDrive uploads them.
OneDrive syncs only while the account is signed in to Windows and the app is running. Use a PC or VM that stays on, signs in automatically, and starts OneDrive with Windows. If it sleeps or signs out, files wait on the PC until it's back — nothing is lost, but nothing syncs either.
Step 1 — Set up OneDrive on the PC
Open the OneDrive app, enter the work or school account, and click Sign in. Accept the default folder location (or Change location) and finish the setup screens.
What you should see:
OneDrive - <organization>in File Explorer's left pane. Create a folder inside it for Paige, for exampleOneDrive - Contoso\Paige\Invoices. One subfolder per scan job.If you use Files On-Demand, right-click the Paige folder and choose Always keep on this device so nothing is offloaded while the SFTP server is writing.
Step 2 — Run an SFTP server on the PC
Windows' built-in OpenSSH Server is free and enough:
Settings > System > Optional features > Add a feature, install OpenSSH Server, and set the OpenSSH SSH Server service to start automatically.
Create a local Windows user for Paige (for example
paige-sftp) with a strong password, and give it modify rights on the Paige folder. SFTP sign-in uses that user's Windows credentials.Forward port 22 on your firewall or router to this PC, allowing only Paige's address ranges — Outbound IP ranges for firewall allow-lists.
Test from an SFTP client outside your network first, and note the exact path that reaches the Paige folder (for a Windows path, something like /C:/Users/<you>/OneDrive - Contoso/Paige/Invoices).
Step 3 — Point Paige at the folder
In Paige, open Settings (the gear at the bottom of the left menu — administrators only), pick the scan job, and choose Export.
Click the FTP card. Enter your public address in FTP Address, Port
22, the SFTP user's Username and Password, and the path from Step 2 in FTP Folder Path.Click Test Connection. What you should see:
FTP connection successful!Connect —Connected to FTP Server!and a green Connected label.Turn on Enable Auto Export, switch on Only documents having a document type, set Human Reviewed to Reviewed if a person checks documents in Paige first, and click Save.
Step 4 — Test it
Process one document through the scan job and wait for the export.
On the PC, open the Paige folder. What you should see: the PDF plus
.json,.xml, and.csvfiles with the same base name, each with OneDrive's green check within a minute.Open OneDrive in a browser. What you should see: the same files.
Living with it
- Filenames are Paige's generated ones. Rename by hand, or use the Power Automate path to name files from their contents.
- The data files arrive too. They're small; the
.csvopens in Excel if someone wants the values. Filter them out of view or clear them on a schedule if they bother you. - Generate combined metadata file in Paige's FTP settings adds one JSON, XML, and CSV per export run summarizing every document.
When it doesn't work
| Symptom | Where to look |
|---|---|
FTP connection failed: from Paige | Port 22 isn't reachable from the internet, the firewall rule doesn't include Paige's ranges, or the Windows user's password is wrong. |
| Files arrive on the PC but never reach OneDrive | OneDrive isn't running or signed in, the PC is asleep, or the folder isn't inside OneDrive - <organization>. Check the cloud icon in the system tray. |
| Files show a red X | A name or path exceeds OneDrive's limits, or the account's storage is full. |
| Nothing arrives from Paige | Auto-export criteria aren't met, or the document was processed before you turned auto export on. Export it once from the Documents page. |
If the Paige side is the problem, contact Ademero support with the scan job name and the message from Test Connection.
