Append pages to a document
Add pages to a filed document — by upload, scan, or QCard — including the Insert at beginning switch, the PDF/TIFF rule, and the new major version every append creates.
At the end of this guide, the page that arrived late — the signed last sheet, the missing exhibit — is part of its document, at the end or the beginning, with the original preserved one version back.
Append by upload
In the document's actions menu, open the Append submenu and choose Upload.
The dialog opens on its Append segment (it shares a dialog with Replace — the segment control at the top says which you're doing).
Two decisions:
- The file — PDF or TIFF ("Supported: PDF, TIFF"); page-based appending needs page-based formats. A Word file that must join a document becomes a PDF first.
- Insert at beginning — off, pages go to the end; on, "Add pages at the start of the document instead of the end" — for the cover page that should have been first.
Confirm. What you should see: "Document appended successfully!" — and the document now has a new major version containing all pages; the pre-append version stays in Version History, where the action reads Appended.
Append by scanner
The same submenu offers DirectScan™ — scan the new pages straight onto the document — and Get QCard, which prints an Append QCard aimed at this document: put it on top of the pages at any batch scanner, and the capture pipeline appends them, no computer at the scanner. (The QCard dialog offers the same End / Beginning position choice.)
When Append is refused
- Appending edits the file, so it needs the Allow Document Editing permission — "You do not have permission to edit this document" is the permissions answer.
- A document checked out by another user refuses until check-in.
Append, or its neighbors?
| The situation | The tool |
|---|---|
| These pages join what's there | Append — this page |
| This file replaces what's there | Replace — same dialog, other segment, with a warning that means it |
| The new file is a revision of the whole document | Upload Revision |
| The pages are a separate document that belongs nearby | Capture it normally — same folder, related field values |
Success check: append a one-page PDF to a test document with Insert at beginning on — the document opens with the new page first, and Version History shows Appended at a new major version, with the prior version downloadable below it.
