# Export Paige documents to a synced SharePoint folder

The no-license path: sync a SharePoint library to a PC with the OneDrive app, run an SFTP server on that PC pointed into the synced folder, and Paige's export lands in the library by itself — PDFs only, no metadata columns, nothing to build.

**At the end of this guide, every document Paige finishes appears in a SharePoint library as a searchable PDF, minutes after export, with no Power Automate license and nothing to build — because the library is a folder on a PC and Paige writes into it.**

This path trades metadata for simplicity. SharePoint columns stay empty; the PDF is what arrives. If you want columns filled, use [the Power Automate path](/paige/integrations/send-paige-documents-to-sharepoint-with-power-automate) instead.

## How it works

1. The OneDrive app on a PC syncs the SharePoint library to a local folder.
2. An SFTP server on that PC exposes a subfolder of the synced library as Paige's export folder.
3. Paige exports finished documents there. OneDrive notices the new files and uploads them to the library.

> **IMPORTANT:** OneDrive only syncs while the user is signed in to Windows and the OneDrive app is running. Use a PC or VM that stays on, with automatic sign-in and OneDrive set to start with Windows. If it sleeps or logs out, files pile up on the PC until it wakes — nothing is lost, but nothing syncs either.

## Step 1 — Sync the library to the PC

1. On the PC, open the library in a browser: the SharePoint site > **Documents** (or the library you want), and open the subfolder for Paige if you want one.
2. Click **Sync** in the library's command bar. If the browser asks permission to open **Microsoft OneDrive**, allow it. You only do this once per PC.
3. **What you should see:** a folder named after your organization appears in File Explorer's left pane, with the library (or subfolder) inside it. The location is fixed — OneDrive doesn't let you choose it.

Create a folder inside it for Paige, for example `…\Contoso\Documents - Finance\Paige Invoices`. Give each scan job its own subfolder.

## Step 2 — Run an SFTP server on the PC

Any Windows SFTP server works. Windows' built-in **OpenSSH Server** is free and enough:

1. **Settings > System > Optional features > Add a feature**, install **OpenSSH Server**, and start the **OpenSSH SSH Server** service (set it to start automatically).
2. Create a local Windows user for Paige (for example `paige-sftp`) with a strong password, and give it modify rights on the Paige folder from Step 1. Sign-in via SFTP uses that user's Windows credentials.
3. On your firewall or router, forward port 22 to this PC, and allow it only from Paige's address ranges — [Outbound IP ranges for firewall allow-lists](/paige/document-processing/outbound-ip-ranges-for-firewall-allow-lists) lists them and explains how to test from outside your network.

> **NOTE:** The SFTP user signs in with a Windows account, so the folder path Paige sees is a Windows path. From the SFTP root (the user's profile by default) you may prefer to point Paige at an absolute path such as `/C:/Users/<you>/Contoso/Documents - Finance/Paige Invoices`. Test from an SFTP client first so you know the exact path that works.

## Step 3 — Point Paige at the folder

1. In Paige, open **Settings** (the gear at the bottom of the left menu — administrators only), pick the scan job, and choose **Export**.
2. Click the **FTP** card. Enter your public address in **FTP Address**, **Port** `22`, the SFTP user's **Username** and **Password**, and the folder path from Step 2 in **FTP Folder Path**.
3. Click **Test Connection**. **What you should see:** `FTP connection successful!` Connect — `Connected to FTP Server!` and a green **Connected** label.
4. Turn on **Enable Auto Export**. Under **Auto Export Settings**, switch on **Only documents having a document type**, and set **Human Reviewed** to **Reviewed** if a person checks documents in Paige first. Click **Save**.

## Step 4 — Test it

1. Process one document through the scan job (review it if you required review) and wait for the export.
2. On the PC, open the Paige folder. **What you should see:** the PDF plus `.json`, `.xml`, and `.csv` files with the same base name, each showing OneDrive's green check within a minute.
3. Open the library in a browser. **What you should see:** the same files.

## Living with it

- **Filenames** are Paige's generated ones (`scan_job_…_page_…_<timestamp>.pdf`). Rename in SharePoint, or move to the Power Automate path when you want names from the document's contents.
- **The data files** land in the library too. They're small and harmless, and the `.csv` opens in Excel if someone wants the values. If you'd rather not see them, create a library view filtered to `.pdf`, or move them out on a schedule.
- **Turn on "Generate combined metadata file"** in Paige's FTP settings if you want one JSON, XML, and CSV per export run summarizing every document — handy for a monthly spreadsheet.

## When it doesn't work

| Symptom | Where to look |
| --- | --- |
| `FTP connection failed:` from Paige | Port 22 isn't reachable from the internet, the firewall rule doesn't include Paige's ranges, or the Windows user's password is wrong. Test from outside your network. |
| Files arrive on the PC but never reach SharePoint | OneDrive isn't running or isn't signed in, the PC is asleep, or the folder isn't inside the synced library. Check the OneDrive icon in the system tray. |
| Files sync but with a red X | The name or path exceeds SharePoint's limits, or the library requires check-in or required columns. Turn off *Require check out* and required columns for this library. |
| Nothing arrives from Paige | Auto-export criteria aren't met, or the document was processed before you turned auto export on. Export it once from the **Documents** page. |

If the Paige side is the problem, contact Ademero support with the scan job name and the message from **Test Connection**.
